ABOUT DOGWOOD CREEK HUNTING PRESERVE
Dogwood Creek Hunting Preserve, Inc. is an upscale preserve located on 100 acres in the Piedmont region of Georgia. It is the natural outgrowth of Dogwood Creek Farms, LLC which was formed in 2009 as a Georgia commercial Bobwhite Quail producer. Dogwood Creek Farms has developed superior strains of Bobwhite quail that are renown for their flight ability and survivability when released into natural habitats. Our quail are raised and weathered as closely as possible to wild quail and unlike pen-raised quail, our quail retain their call-back and explosive flight ability. Dubbed the Creek Birds™, Dogwood Creek Farms quail are a constant work in progress as we identify and devise new improvements to their performance with a focus on creating exciting hunts.

The Location. Nestled in a remote location in Monroe County, Georgia, Dogwood Creek Hunting Preserve is comprised of 100 wooded and partially cleared acres approximately one hour from Hartfield-Jackson Airport (ATL) in Atlanta and 15 minutes from Upson Thomaston Airport (KOPN) in Thomaston. This is indeed the Georgia Piedmonts which means that it is comprised of rolling hills and large trees bordered by creeks and tributaries. This is a challenging course and not the typical wide open expansive fields. The hunting courses consist of two smaller partially wooded hunt areas before crossing a creek and entering into the first larger field with pathways and grass at sufficient heights to encourage the quail to fly above and upward when flushed. Crossing the trail, there is a similarly large open field which leads to another more heavily wooded plantation-cut area.
The Dogs. The Preserve primarily utilizes English Pointers as the traditional pointer in the hunts. This year, we are very fortunate to host beautiful, expertly trained English Pointers from Prestige Pointers in Kentucky. If you have never before seen the quality and exciting ability of the Prestige Pointers dogs, please visit their website www.prestigepointers.com. They are truly excellence in appearance and execution. In addition, the hunt guides and handlers at times will bring their own well-trained German Shorthaired Pointers or Brittany Spaniels. All have gone through the courses and all of them locate birds, point and hold extremely well, and all are exciting to watch albeit with varying styles and levels of energy. We also utilize English Cockers as flushing dogs. Cockers add another dimension and way to further enjoy the hunts. They also act as a safety measure to keep our guides with much larger and taller profiles out of harm’s way when a bird rises from the ground. Our little veteran Tut is featured in the top video on the home page.
Tilly & Myrtle. Although born and raised in Tennessee, our palomino draft mules, Tilly & Myrtle, are what is commonly referred to as Georgia Mules. Standing at approximately 14.3 hands each they are stout, stoic little mules that live to work. Well, at least Tilly does. Myrtle likes to take a day off every now and then. They are a joy to keep and drive and will pull you up and down the hills of the Preserve in style.
